KUALA LUMPUR: Amateur golfer Winnie Ng emerged as the best Malaysian player in the second round of the 2017 Sime Darby Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour held at TPC Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Kiara, yesterday.

After starting off with three birdies at the 10th, 15th and 16th hole, she had two consecutive double bogeys at the second and third hole just before the game was put on hold for almost four hours as a thunderstorm hit the course, which slightly inhibit her game.

However, she managed to card an-even-par 71 and shared 41st spot with world number one Ryu So-yeon of South Korea, after bouncing back and adding another two consecutive birdies at the fourth and fifth hole after the game resumed.

“I was really surprised that my ball was going to the pin a lot today and that was a good round. Despite that, I had two double bogeys in a row.

“It was really sad and I was really down. So I went back to the club and ate a lot. I told myself sometimes bad things happen but it's the way you respond to it and you have a choice to feel good or bad. So just go there and have no expectations and just play your game,” the 16-year-old told reporters, here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, Natasha Andrea Oon, 16, who created a huge impression on her US$1.8 million (about RM7.6 million) debut appearance Thursday, blamed the rain delay as she had to fight hard to get back her momentum of good run on the course.

Natasha scored a two-over-73 par to stand in joint 57th place along with other five players.

“Actually, it was okay before the rain delay. But after the delay, I was struggling to find my rhythm initially but then I found it. So it was okay, but not so good.

“Getting the putting speed right and after the rain, you know, because it makes the green much more softer. It was really hard to just really get the speed as after a long delay, your body is not really warmed up and that was the trouble I had,” she said.

However, she is aiming to play under par and will keep to the same game plan for the remaining two rounds.

“I hope I can play under in the next few days, and hopefully try and get my rhythm back,” she said.
