Nine detained for illegal cyber gambling

PENAMPANG: Police have detained nine people for involvemen­t in cyber gambling at Golf View Garden in Jalan Bundusan near here on Friday.

Criminal Investigat­ion Department (CID) chief, SAC Salehhudin Abdul Rahman, said a police team made the raid following a tip-off and surveillan­ce of the premises at around 11.50 pm on October 27.

Among those detained were seven players and two caretakers of the premises, all aged between 28 and 76� years old, said Salehhudin.

“One of the caretakers is a foreigner without any proper permit while the rest are locals,” he said yesterday.

The raid also saw police seizing numerous items, such as 11 computer sets, four modems and RM4,171 cash that is believed to be earnings from the illegal activity.

The case is currently being investigat­ed under Section 4 (B) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953. Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, two foreign women have been arrested for prostituti­on.

Salehhudin said, a Mongolian and a Chinese women, aged 27 and 25 years old respective­ly, were arrested at a hotel along the Penampang Bypass here on Friday.

Police also detained two men, in their 20s and 40s, during the 4 pm raid.

“The men are locals and believed to be customers of the two foreign women when police made the arrests,” said Salehudin.

Investigat­ion also revealed that the women had just entered the state capital on a social visit pass and their modus operandi was to find prospectiv­e customers via the social media ‘WeChat’.

Police are currently investigat­ing the case under Section 372B of the Penal Code for soliciting for purpose of prostituti­on.
