-

TENOM: The 2018 Budget announced by the Prime Minister on Friday is a special gift to farmers in the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak.

Deputy Agriculture and Agrobased Industry Minister Datuk Sri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman expressed hope that farmers across the country will take advantage of the enormous allocation in 2018 Budget for the agricultural sector.

“This covers paddy farmers, fruit and vegetables growers, fishermen and breeders,” he told the farmers at Chung Hwa Hall here, yesterday.

He said this was the opportunity for agri-entrepreneurs and farmers to further intensify agricultural activities in the various sectors.

On the Tenom Area Farmers' Organisation (PPK) Collection Centre, he said it started its operation on April 15, 2015 and the purpose of its establishment was to help farmers market their produce directly to consumers, thereby increasing the profitability of farmers and producers.

“With the launching of the center, it is easier for farmers and PKK Tenom to market agricultural produce and carry out marketing activities in the market.

“Through this centre we can create cooperation among PKK members, Tenom PKK and producers in increasing their respective income,” he said.

At the function, Tajuddin presented a mock cheque to PKK Tenom, and also handed over a My Gap Certificate (DOA Sabah) to Koh Tian Loi @ Henry, and Jakias David @ Azmi, for the pomelo planting projects and Lamudin Lalandang for the moringa planting project.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Haji Sairin Karno, Tenom member of parliament Datuk Raime Unggi, government and Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry officials.
