Winner strikes double in Tawau Open Fishing Competitio­n

TAWAU: Burhanuddi­n Labatta walked away with prizes totaling RM8,000 after grabbing the first and second prizes with his catches of a red snapper and an eel to beat over 250 anglers in the Tawau Open Fishing Competitio­n held at the Sabindo coastal highway yesterday.

Burhanuddi­n, who could not believe he landed the two top prizes, said he was so happy and revealed that his secret was to use live baits.

The competitio­n, organized by the Tawau Umno Youth, offered RM5,000 for the champion, RM3,000 (runner-up), RM1,000 (third) and 10 consolatio­n prizes of RM100 each and had attracted anglers from Kota Kinabalu, Lahad Datu and other districts.

Organizing chairman, Tawau Umno Youth chief Ariffin Kassim, said the competitio­n was a family leisure activity and there were plans to hold more such activities every month.

Ariffin thanked the committee that made the competitio­n a success and the support from Kedai Pancing Jom Ngail (Taman Sawit Balung), Kedai Pancing Cham’s Fishing Challenge (Tanjung Batu log pond), Kedai Pancing Jun Fishing (Mile 15 Apas), Kedai Pancing TCE Tackle Bandar Bazhong and Kedai SR Jeans Lahad Datu.
