Mun Yee-Pandelela still good for gold
KUALA LUMPUR: After not performing together for almost two years, the pair of Leong Mun Yee and Pandelela Rinong Pamg has managed to keep with their rhythm when they delivered a gold medal to Malaysia at the 2017 FINA Diving Grand Prix Kuala Lumpur.
They won the women’s synchronised 10m platform diving event with 311.28 points.
Mun Yee, 32, conceded she was not fully ready in the short period but was satisfied with the performance yesterday at the National Aquatic Centre, Kuala Lumpur Sports City.
“I would say I performed quite well if compared to our training as it was a short stint. But after a long absence, I was quite nervous partnering Pandelela.
“After finishing our jumps, I realised we were quite far ahead. But I feel if given more time, maybe we could earn even more points,” she told the media here yesterday.
Mun Yee and Pandelela last partnered each other in the World Diving Series in Beijing in March last year.
The silver medal went to Emily Boyd-Nikita Hains of Australia with 280.68 points while South Korea’s Kim Suji-Cho Eunbi took the bronze (275.10 points).
Malaysia also won a silver medal via Nur Dhabitah Sabri-Gabriel Gilbert in the mixed synchronised springboard after garnering 272.15 points.
The gold and bronze went to Japan’s Reo NishidaHazuki Miyamoto and Kim Suji-Woo Haram of South Korea respectively.
The national diving squad concluded the GP series held since Friday with two gold, four silver and one bronze medals. - Bernama
