Basic TVET subjects should be taught at early age — Idris

-

BESUT: Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh yesterday recommended that children between the age of two and six years be exposed to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) subjects and foreign languages.

As such, he said, operators of child care centres and kindergartens should prepare for this new approach so that the children would not be left behind in mastering the necessary skills in the future

“For example in Terengganu, the Terengganu Family Development Foundation (YPKT), as well as the Terengganu Islamic Foundation (YIT) which are involved in early childhood education should take action to ensure every child in the state can master the mainstream subjects, such as science, mathematics and language when they enter Year 1,” he said.

He said this at the State TASKA Day at Kota Putera Square, Kampung Raja here which was also attended by Kota Putera assemblyman Mohd Mahdi Musa and YPKT director Mohd Safaruddin Mustaffa.

Idris, who is Besut Member of Parliament, said it was important for YPKT to have proper planning in shaping the future of children in the state to enable them to excel at world level.

He said children could be developed according to the nation's future need by applying the PERMATA Negara curriculum which focuses on stimulation of the mind through experimentation, exploration and experience in a fun learning environment. - Bernama
