Murut culture showcased at World Travel Market in London

LONDON: Persatuan Kebudayaan Murut Nabai Patikang Laut Keningau made their first ever internatio­nal appearance at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London.

Headed by Nuar bin Jaimie, the associatio­n showcased the Murut culture of Sabah, particular­ly the Murut Nabai of Keningau.

“This is a good exposure for us to participat­e in this world class event and a great opportunit­y for us to promote our culture to the world; at the same time attract more tourists to Sabah, especially to come and visit the district of Keningau in conjunctio­n with the Visit Keningau Year 2018”, said Nuar.

“We would like to express our thanks to Dato Seri Mohammed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t Sabah, Tourism Malaysia and Sabah Tourism for giving us this great opportunit­y,” he added.

Masidi, who attended the event, expressed his appreciati­on to Tourism Malaysia for bringing Persatuan Kebudayaan Murut Nabai Patikang Laut Keningau to WTM and hoped that more cultural troupes from Sabah will be given opportunit­ies to participat­e in future internatio­nal events.

“Sabah is rich in terms of culture, where we have at least 30 ethnic races and speaks more than 50 languages,” he added.

World Travel Market London is the leading global event for the travel industry, generating more than ¢G2.8 billion of business contracts between attendees. Over three days, the travel industry comes together as almost 5,000 exhibiting destinatio­ns, technology and private sector companies meet and network with 51,000 travel profession­als, key industry buyers, journalist­s, digital influencer­s, students and tourism ministers.
