Filipino jailed for stealing motorcycle

KOTA KINABALU: A Filipino was jailed for 30 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for stealing a motorcycle.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie imposed the sentence on Mohd Ahirin Alan, 26, after he pleaded guilty to the offence yesterday.

Mohd Ahirin stole the motorcycle, worth RM3,000, which belonged to Safawie Japkin, 28, at motorcycle parking lot by the roadside of Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen here at 2pm on October 31.

The offence is framed under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries jail term of up to seven years and also liable to a fine, upon conviction. Based on the facts, the complainan­t had parked his motorcycle at motorcycle parking lot in front of Wisma Merdeka here and went inside the shopping mall to buy things.

At about 3pm, the complainan­t came to get his motorcycle but could not find it and suspected it was stolen.

In a separate case, another man claimed trial at the same court to attempting to steal cables.

Rezally Ramatan, 28, who was brought before the magistrate, was charged under Section 379/511 of the Penal Code.

The indictment carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or to both, upon conviction.

The court fixed December 5 this year for case management and released the unrepresen­ted Rezally on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.
