College introduces system to help cops’ children excel

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Police Contingent yesterday received assistance from Kolej Unikop to help its personnel’s children excel in their studies.

Kolej Unikop introduced and implemented its Unikop4School program that included the Hometutor system to help out the students study better.

According to PDRM Cooperative chairman Tan Sri Hussin Ismail, the Hometutor is an online learning program that was developed to help students in the revision of their school work other than helping through intensive and practical exercises that is done with weekly quizzes.

The system not only has comprehensive content, it is also an interactive system where the students can access to the Hometutor anywhere as long as there is internet connection, he said, adding that parents will also be able to monitor their children’s learning achievement through the system.

Speaking at the launching ceremony at the state police contingent headquarters in Kepayan here, Hussin said the subjects available are core ones such as Bahasa Melayu (BM), English Language (BI), Science and Mathematics for those taking the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3), while for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) the subjects offered are BM, BI, Mathematics and History.

“When using the application students will be exposed to Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi (KBAT) questions as well as projected questions for UPSR, PT3 and SPM. To download the application, each of the students will be given a personal ID and after installing it onto their smartphone or tablet, they can choose the subject they want to do revision in,” he said.

“The Hometutor package costs RM360 for the general public but today we are giving it for free to the Sabah police contingent where the students and parents can use the e-learning ID for one year.

Unikop4School involves 10,000 students who are children of the police personnel in Sabah, from primary and secondary schools. The system was launched in 2016 and is used by many schools throughout the country.

Meanwhile State Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said that he is grateful to Kolej Unikop for introducing a new innovation, the e-Pembelaharan application to help out the learning and facilitation process of police personnel’s children.

“I was made to understand that the program to spur the academic excellence of police personnel’s children was designed to help encourage the revision of culture among those who are still studying as well as providing those with ICT facility at home to use it as a platform for e-learning,” he said, adding that the e-Home Tutor application is free of charge.

To ensure that the Unikop4School program is a success, Kolej Unikop is carrying it out as part of its corporate social responsibility, Ramli said and added that he is proud to note that the Sabah Police Contingent headquarters is the first to receive the e-learning assistance.

Ramli urged all the police personnel and their children to appreciate the opportunity provided for them to improve their quality of learning with more efficiency and dedication.

Revision of school work will no longer be an issue as the students will be able to do it anywhere now with the application that is downloaded onto their laptops, home computers, tablets and handphones, he stressed.

“What Kolej Unikop is doing to help children of police personnel throughout the country can be emulated by other NGOs and private colleges. I hope that programs like this can become the basis in spurring the excellence of students in primary and secondary schools.

“At the same time it can ease their parents’ burden who are working hard to protect the country’s security and sovereignty,” he said.
