Man denies cheating woman over purchase of sport shoes

KOTA KINABALU: A 37-yearold man claimed trial to cheating his former schoolmate over the purchase of sport shoes worth RM370.

Jervis Rory, who was brought before magistrate Afiq Agoes, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and also liable to whipping and fine, upon conviction.

Jervis was accused of cheating a 37-year-old woman by making her believe that he could help her to order the sport shoes through his friend in Kuala Lumpur.

Thus, she was induced to transfer RM370 via online into the accused’s bank account at an office in Centre Point here at 11am on Feb 3.

The court fixed December 7 this year for pre-trial case management and released the accused on RM2,000 bail with two local sureties pending disposal of the case.

Inspector Rasydan Jasni prosecuted while the accused was not represente­d.

The same court fined a man RM4,200, in default, 10 months in jail for possessing 0.32 gram of syabu.

Mohd Khairul Jumat, 27, pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs in Taman Ketiau, Putatan at 12.40am on September 22.

He was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, a Filipino was jailed four months for taking syabu.

Ronih Win, 18, tested positive for drug abuse at the police headquarte­rs here on September 28.

The court ordered Ronih to serve his sentence consecutiv­ely with his five-month jail sentence for entering the state illegally.
