Jet fighter makes precautionary landing
KUCHING: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F18 fighter aircraft that took off from Labuan landed safely at the Kuching International Airport here yesterday.
According to a statement issued by the RMAF, the fighter aircraft made a Precautionary Landing after it was faced with minor problem on the Nose Landing Gear Indicator in the cockpit was not functioning despite all three landing gear have been deployed.
The pilot made the Precautionary Landing safely.
The fighter aircraft is secluded for its flight back to Butterworth Air Force Base today, after completing a PARADISE Exercise 4/2017 at the Labuan Air Force Base.
Meanwhile, The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (AFRS) state spokesperson said that the situation was fully under controlled.
The two pilots on board the fighter aircraft declared an ‘airhawk’ at 2.41pm following a suspected undercarriage (landing gear) failure due to the aircraft malfunction indicator.
The authorities immediately alerted the various agencies to take all necessary steps for a possible full emergency landing. The fighter aircraft landed safely five minutes later at 2.46pm.
Two commercial aircraft was put on hold as the fighter aircraft was still on the runway. Further examination were carried out and the operation ended at 3.22pm.
