Zack claims RSTC Gold Cup

KOTA KINABALU: Zack of Solid Stable was crowned the new champion of the Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) Gold Cup 2017 race at the Tambalang Race Course in Tuaran on Sunday.

Guided by jockey Md Sairie, Zack justified its tag as one of the Gold Cup’s early favourites to beat the 10 other starters in the main race of the day.

The victory earned Zack RM30,000 out of the total stake money of RM57,500.

Fellow early favourites City Spider and See My Style finished second and third respective­ly while Lily Express II came fourth in the 1,900m race for Class I and II horses on turf track.

In the RSTC Classic race for Thoroughbr­ed Class A and B, CH Wong-owned Athena defied the seedings to lift the title, which comes with RM25,000 prize money.

Pop, Eye The Prize and Kimberly Pride settled for second to fifth place.

The other highlight race of the day was in the Class 9 Cup covering a distance of 1,800m where the Datuk Chau Chin Tang-owned King Arthur emerged as the winner.

King Arthur staved off a strong fight from second place Bongawan Prince II while Ranger Ranch and All Is Well came third and fourth respective­ly.

RSTC chairman Datuk Peter Chin was joined by the management in presenting the prizes to the winners.

Meanwhile, the RSTC Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year 2017 will be conducted at the Port View Palace Hall at Dewan Hakka Sabah starting 4.30pm on December 5.
