Sabah bag 2 gold, 3 silver in archery

Sabah bagged two gold and three silver medals from the State BackUp Talents Second Series Carnival Tournament archery compe on at SK Sungai Talam, Kuantan in Pahang on Sunday.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah bagged two gold and three silver medals from the State Back-Up Talents Second Series Carnival Tournament archery competitio­n at SK Sungai Talam, Kuantan in Pahang on Sunday.

The gold medal haul ensured the state’s young talents successful­ly retained the two gold medals that they won in the first series in Perlis.

The gold were won in the Boy’s and Girl’s 11-13 years old Olympics Round Team event.

The gold winning boy archers under coach Charley Chia from Sabah Sports School Malaysia (SSMS) are Muhammad Dzulhelmi Dzulkarnai­n, Jassel Lu Chun Vui and Muhammad Azmi Bacho.

Trinity Manavai Christinil­lus, Renee Sew Pei Xuan and Ekaputri Aqeela Ali who trained under coach Fransisco delivered the gold from the girls’ event.

Sabah also added two silver from the Boys’ and Girls’ 11-13 years old Team Overall while Trinity finished second in the Girls’ 11-13 years old Individual Olympics Round.

Eighteen state and district training centres from around the country took part in the five-day carnival featuring the 11-13 years (30m shoot) and 14-15 years (50m shoot) categories.

There were 74 boy and 70 girl archers in the younger age group and another 71 boys and 43 girls competing in the older age group.

The full squad for the 11-13 years competitio­n from Sabah comprise Dzulhelmi from SM All Saints, Jassel (SM All Saints), Azmi (SK Desa Subur, Tawau), Putra Mohamad Fyirdous Harun (SK Pekan Papar), Aiman Syafie Alidin (SMA Tun Ahmad Shah, KK), Muhammad Dzulkifli Dzulkarnai­n (SRK St. Agnes, KK), Trinity (SM All Saints), Renee (Kota Kinabalu High School), Ekaputri (Kian Kok Middle School), Siti Nurhuril Ain (SMK Inanam), Sandra Joan Albert (SMJK Ken Hwa, Keningau) and Shayna Jacqueline (SRS Simon Fung, KK).

Syafiq Zulhisyam Ahmad Faizal Hisyam of SMK Kuhara, Tawau was Sabah’s sole entry in the boy’s 14-15 years category.

Team manager Ir Hj Dzulkarnai­n Datuk Hj Dzulkifli led the team with Intan Khadiatul Asrin Saad as chaperone as well as Paul Leong as one of the coaches with Chia and Francisco.
