Damaged house of storm victims repaired with aid from Penampang Upko

-

PENAMPANG: A young family of five whose house was damaged during the recent storm could finally breathe a sigh of relief as they move into their newly repaired home.

Labourer, Jasni @ Marcellus Sebastian, 43, his wife and three young children had to put up at a relative’s house since the roof of their house was blown off by the winds during the recent storm in Kampung Nosoob Baru, here.

With his meagre income barely touching the state’s minimum wage, the family’s sole breadwinner’s solution to their problem was not in sight until his sister-in-law, Jarina Medi, approached Penampang UPKO Natural Disaster Bureau chief Ceasar Mandela Malakun for assistance.

Mandela, who is also Sabanilam Enterprise Sdn Bhd group general manager and his team, wasted no time to visit the family’s damaged home on November 10, and started repair works on the next day.

“Jasni’s relatives had already started gathering materials at that time, so we decided to help them to repair the house, and added on necessary materials.

“The construction took two weeks as the structure of the house was damaged by termites,” he said when met during his visit to the house yesterday.

Mandela urged the public to contact Penampang UPKO Natural Disaster Bureau at Hotline number: 014-9528292 or 011-17898504, or through Facebook BBAUPKOPPG, if they are affected by any natural disasters or to report damage caused by natural disasters.

Thanking his sister-in-law, and Mandela for the assistance, Jasni said that her three children aged seven, eight, and nine, can now sleep comfortably without worry that the storm may destroy their house again because it has been structurally strengthened.
