UMS signs MoU with SEDIA, IDS for research on Sabah economy
KOTA KINABALU: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was yesterday signed between Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) and Institute of Development Studies (IDS).
The MoU is a step to progress the collaboration efforts between UMS and two organisations that advance development programmes and research on the Sabah economy.
Under the MoU, UMS, SEDIA and IDS will be engaging in collaborative efforts on research, publication and in other academic activities including holding conferences, seminars and workshops.
The MoU was signed during the opening of the International Conference and Economics 2017 (ICE2017).
UMS vice chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr D. Kamarudin D. Mudin who was represented by deputy vice chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr Shahril Yusof commended the organisation of the conference, stating that it was done in a timely manner and served as a platform for businessmen, policy makers and academicians to gather to understand the issues and challenges faced by decision makers in the quest to achieve economic integration and global sustainability in the modern world.
He said that massive increases in population growth and resource constraints implied that all of us need to work hand in hand to achieve the global sustainable development goals suggested by the United Nations.
“Policymakers, practitioners and researchers can contribute to this effort through the accumulation of information and the implementation of informed decisions by policy makers at the national and global levels. If it is done right everyone can enjoy sustainable development,” he said.
