Seven fined over drugs

KOTA KINABALU: Seven men were convicted by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday on separate charges of possessing syabu.

Magistrate Afiq Agoes imposed the sentence on all the accused persons after they pleaded guilty to each of their charges framed under Section 12 (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The offence carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or a maximum jail term of five years or both, upon conviction.

Mohd Isaac Brillantes, 30, was fined RM5,000, in default, 12 months’ jail for possessing 0.08grams of syabu in Inanam on August 12.

Meanwhile, Rich Ronald Junis, 30 and Yusuf Kipli, 29, were each fined RM2,800, in default, 10 months’ jail for having 0.22grams and 0.11grams of syabu in Putatan and Manggatal on September 16 and 23, respective­ly.

Mathius Mingu, 20, who was defended by counsel Dominic Ghani, was fined RM2,000 or six months’ jail while Nelaryus David, 26, received RM2,400 fine, in default, eight months’ jail.

Mathius and Nelaryus were arrested for possessing 0.05grams and 0.06grams of syabu in Penampang and Manggatal on September 14 and 20, respective­ly.

Another two accused, namely Asmat Jimin, 21, and Rohaimi Shamsuddin, 20, were jailed for 10 months each for having syabu weighing 0.28grams and 0.22grams at Sadong Jaya here on September 1 for Asmat and Rohaimin was caught on August 14.

Inspector Mohd Rasydan Jasni appeared for the prosecutio­n.
