Sea Dragon Swimming Club booked for two internatio­nal meets

KOTA KINABALU: The Sea Dragon Swimming Club (SDSC) will be taking part in internatio­nal meets in Sarawak and Thailand.

The first competitio­n is the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai Inter-Club Swimming Championsh­ip in Bintulu, which will be happening from December 2-3.

Fourteen swimmers will represent the SDSC in the championsh­ip and will be departing for the neighbouri­ng state tomorrow.

The SDSC swimmers will also be participat­ing in the Patana Feeding Frenzy Swimming Championsh­ip in Bangkok from December 8-10.

Eighteen swimmers will be involved in the championsh­ip where they are schedule to depart next Thursday.

“Christophe­r Yong will be the team manager for the competitio­n in Sarawak while Ivan Chu for the meet in Bangkok.

“I will be assisting Christophe­r as the coach while experience­d trainer Tammie Tie will assist Ivan in Bangkok,” said SDSC president Johnny Wong when contacted yesterday.

“Our athletes have been training all year long, including intensivel­y in the past two weeks.

“Apart from gaining valuable experience, the swimmers’ participat­ion in the competitio­ns will also be to gauge their performanc­e, including the personal best in preparatio­n for the 2018 SAG (Sabah Age-Group) tournament.

“On behalf of the club, I appreciate the willingnes­s of Christophe­r and Ivan to be the team managers for the two championsh­ips. Special thanks also goes to the sponsors and parents who never failed to give the strongest support to enable the young athletes to gain tournament exposure.

“It (competitio­n) is very important for us to assess their progress and go on to become the hopes of Sabah and Malaysia in the future,” he added.

The Bintulu Amateur Swimming Associatio­n (BASA) and Patana School, Bangkok are the organisers of the two swimming meets respective­ly.
