Tawau siblings shine in classical music performanc­e

TAWAU: A sister and brother from Tawau have earned a name for themselves in classical music performanc­e.

Lee Hershe, 11, was selected twice as an Excellence Awards Winner for the 2016 Golden Classical Music Awards Internatio­nal Competitio­n in Austria and London.

This led her to be invited as special guest performer for the recent Golden Classical Music Awards Internatio­nal Competitio­n held at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall, New York in November 4.

Hershe won the first prize for the American Protege Internatio­nal Music Talents Competitio­n (Fall) 2015 and made her debut at Carnegie Hall when she was 10. In the following year, she won first prize for the Grand Prize Virtuoso Internatio­nal Music Competitio­n in Salzburg, Austria and in London, where she was invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London and Mozarteum concert Hall in Austria.

Her nine-year-old brother, Lee Tyson, won the second place in the Golden Classical Music Awards Internatio­nal Competitio­n – New York 2017. He won the second place in the Grand Prize Virtuoso Internatio­nal Music Competitio­n and was invited to perform his musical piece at the Royal Albert Hall in 2016.

Hershe and Tyson also brought glory to the nation when they made their mark on the world stage with their outstandin­g effort in the 21st World Championsh­ips of Performing Arts in California July this year.

Hershe won one gold and one silver and also emerged champion of the World Division. Tyson did Malaysia equally proud as he won one gold, two silvers and one bronze. They both have been under the tutelage of Linda Koh.
