Borneo Birds Run attracts 450 participants
SANDAKAN: A total of 450 participants from Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Beluran and Kota Kinabalu, took part in the eightkilometre Borneo Birds Run second edition, yesterday.
The run which started from the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) Sepilok to Kampung Sepilok Laut, was flagged off by Sabah Chief Forest Conservator Datuk Sam Mannan.
Other than the run, a Fancy Dress Fun run was also held for two kilometres around RDC.
Saibee Mohammad, Addy Zonuis and Azrul Bombo achieved first, second and third places in the Men’s Open Category respectively, while the Women’s Open Category was won by Christina Donald (first), On Binti Paris (second) and Vidialee (third).
For the Men’s Veteran Category, the first place went to Alexander Lee while Jirin Lumpakis and Ibra Sirah won second and third places respectively. Sahria Daraup, Thoen Sim Yee, and Wong Kim Lan got first, second and third places in the Women’s Veteran Category, respectively.
As for Fancy Dress Run, the fastest runners were Soong Chau, Woing Siew Seng, Lau Wing Yuen, Tsen Chui Ting and Keith Lau Kah He.
Each winner received cash price and a trophy presented by organising chairman Cede Prudente and organising committee member Carol Prudente.
Chairman of Sandakan Borneo Birds Club Gary Albert said the run did not only encourage healthy and active lifestyle amongst locals, but the run also allowed participants to enjoy the beauty of the natural environment.
He said the run, which received support from Forestry Department and Sabah Tourism Board, also raised awareness on protecting the environment and wildlife species.
