Over 150 attend Sandakan football clinic

KOTA KINABALU: More than 150 players attended a football clinic that was held at the Sandakan Municipal Council field, recently.

The programme which on November 25 and 26 was jointly organised by Persatuan Anak Nelayan Kinabatang­an (PKANK), Kelab Bola Sepak Persisiran Kinabatang­an (KBPK), Kelab Belia Kg Karamuntin­g (KBKK) and Sandakan Newbie.

The programme themed “Restoring Sabah’s Football Glory” also received support from Sabah Stars 90s FC (SS90sFC).

Several coaches from the Sabah Football Associatio­n (Safa) led by Justin Ganai conducted the clinic.

The other coaches were Jelius Ating, Burhan Ajui, Yap Wai Loon, Suharmin Yusof, Andrew Laban, Conrad Mojungkim, Johnny Dominicus, Mark Damum, Hashim Hamzah, Petronella Douny and Anizam Zainudin.

Meanwhile, SS90s FC spokesman, Hashim said, there were also participan­ts from Tongod and Beluran apart from Sandakan and Kinabatang­an.

“Participan­ts between the age of 10 and 20 attended the programme, which was very encouragin­g. We feel that the main objective of organising the programme, which is to make football one of the favourite sports, was successful­ly met.

“Participan­ts were taught the basics of the game because we want them to play with the right techniques. This is one of the right initiative­s to try and restore football glory in the state,” he said.

The two-day programme ended with a friendly match between Kinabatang­an Umno Veteran team and SS90s FC. SS90sFC won 4-1. Karamuntin­g Assemblyma­n, Datuk Charles O Pang officiated at the closing ceremony.

Also present were PKANK chairman-cum-organising chairman Emerson Dawang, Sedin Kechil (KBPK), Mohd Najib Nawang (KBKK) and Dato Maharudin (Sandakan Newbie).

Emerson is grateful to all those who helped make the programme successful, including Safa Sandakan, Sandakan Municipal Council and Sandakan FM.
