SANDAKAN: The 2017 programme of free tennis lessons for kindergarten kids came to a successful conclusion recently with the president of Kelab Tenis Remaja Sandakan (KTRS), Taren Sunil Manoharan, honorary secretary Jocelyn Lee and coach Leo Corre attending the closing functions at Syn Hua and Pui Gin kindergartens in Sandakan.

Manoharan presented tokens of appreciation to the headmistresses of Syn Hua and Pui Gin Kindergartens, Sim Yit Choo and Yapp Chun Lan respectively.

The twice-weekly lessons, which started in February, were organised by the Manoharan Junior Tennis Academy which is the coaching unit of KTRS.

Highlight of the year was the Manoharan Junior Tennis Carnival held on 17th September where the kids from the two kindergartens were given the opportunity to pit their skills against each other in a fun-filled and friendly competition.

“It has been a wonderful five years of fruitful cooperation between KTRS and these two well-established Sandakan kindergartens and we thank their management, headmistresses and teachers for their untiring efforts in helping us introduce and promote the game of tennis to their young kids,” said Manoharan.

He expressed his confidence that many of the kids will continue to play the game as they grow up and even when they become adults.

“We are now making preparations for the resumption of the free tennis clinics in early 2018 in line with the beginning of the new school term,” added Manoharan.
