RHB aims for 10 per cent growth in customer base with new unit
GEORGE TOWN: RHB Bank Bhd expects its customer base in the northern region to grow by 10 per cent following the opening of its 209th branch here which is equipped with Premier Banking Centre here.
Group Retail Banking Acting Head, Nazri Othman, said the northern region market was the second largest market in the country after Klang Valley where consumer business was concerned.
He said RHB Bank’s customers in this region (northern) included the retail, small and medium enterprises, and the affluent segments which were the reason behind the introduction of the Premier Banking Centre.
“The new Tanjung Tokong branch would drive up the customer base in the north by about 10 per cent in 2018,” he told reporters here, recently.
Nazri said the expansion was poised to further spur the performance of RHB’s northern region which currently ranked top three among its 10 local regions.
Earlier, its group managing director, Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli, opened the RHB Bank branch in Wisma Binjul, Tanjung Tokong, which was its 24th branch in northern region.
However, Nazri said, he was quite bullish on the mortgage loans which the group expected to grow by 16 per cent this year.
“We are expected to outdo the growth of mortgage loans in the financing industry which is about seven per cent this year. We also project that the mortgage loans to grow about 13 per cent next year,” he said.
He said beside expanding the Amanah Saham Bumiputera and motor vehicle financing, the group’s loans were focused on those building affordable homes or buying affordable projects in line with the market demand and developers’ offers.
“We are also optimistic of the growth of the retail sector but we tend be selective as to the type of business we want to finance,” he said. — Bernama
