CIMB Foundation launches MOZEK to nurture youths
PASIR GUDANG, Johor: CIMB Foundation launched CIMB MOZEK, a holiday camp in collaboration with Teach For Malaysia (TFM), to promote integration and unity among school children.
According to CIMB Foundation’s press statement, CIMB MOZEK is the foundation’s flagship initiative that embraces its ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ guiding principle, which cuts across all of the foundation’s programmes, to ensure that they will benefit as many people as possible, regardless of their race, religion, age or gender.
CIMB MOZEK was launched by Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, Permaisuri of Johor; witnessed by CIMB Group’s chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, Johor Education Department director Haji Shaharuddin Shariff, Trustees from CIMB Foundation, Trustee of TFM Datuk Noor Rezan Bapoo Hashim, as well as CIMB Foundation’s chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Hamidah Naziadin, CEO of CIMB Foundation.
Designed as a fun, three-week holiday camp, CIMB MOZEK provides a platform for primary and secondary school students to benefit from a specially curated syllabus designed to instil respect and better inter-ethnic understanding among students.
By embedding the concept of diversity and inclusion in various subjects, the project aims to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of one’s culture, as well as of others’ backgrounds and differences.
Nazir Razak, who is also a trustee of CIMB Foundation, commented “CIMB is committed to nurturing diversity through the CIMB MOZEK Camp, which promotes students’ cultural awareness and their appreciation of our diversity as Malaysia’s collective strength.

assets, which makes our teachers the most important asset managers, whose crucial role is also recognised and enhanced to facilitate diversity learning at schools based on the specially curated MOZEK syllabus.”
He added, “The word ‘MOZEK’ was specifically chosen as it represents a beautiful combination of mosaic pieces of various sizes, shapes and colours, reflecting how each of us carries our own piece of ‘mosaic’ defined by our ethnicity, culture, racial identity and language.
“The unique combination of our cultural differences is what makes up a beautiful mosaic that should be nurtured to ensure the continued harmony of our multi-cultural community.”
CIMB MOZEK is currently being piloted with students from SMK Taman Scientex, from November 26 until December 14. 543 children are undergoing this programme to gain exposure in cooperative learning and inter-ethnic appreciation, facilitated by 59 teachers. Youth is a special target group in the Foundation’s three key pillars, be it in Sports, Education and Community development. Under Education, the Foundation continues to develop youths through impactful programmes like CIMB MOZEK, as well as others like Be$MART, its flagship financial literacy programme for students from higher-learning institutions.
Earlier last month, the CIMB Group said it had pledged one per cent of the group’s profit before tax (PBT) for its Foundation-led CSR initiatives for the period 2018 - 2020 across Asean.
The funds would be channelled towards organising more CIMB MOZEK and Be$MART sessions, as well as enhancing and replicating other successful projects from the foundation’s three core pillars with the aim of empowering more communities and changing even more lives across the region.
