Ops Ikrar nets 14 illegal immigrants
KUCHING: A total 14 illegal immigrants were detained by the Immigration Department during a two-day Ops Ikrar carried out last Friday and Saturday.
They included 10 Indonesians arrested following the operation at Serian bus terminal last Saturday. Five of them committed offences under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to submit any valid travel documents.
The other four were arrested on suspicion of committing an offense under Section 15 (1) (c) of the same Act, for overstaying the validated period of their social passes, while another carried a document with dubious endorsement.
The State Immigration Department director Ken Leben said the four other illegal immigrants nabbed during the first day of the operation comprised three Indonesians and a Bangladeshi for various offenses under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“All the 14 illegal immigrants have been brought to the Semuja Immigration Depot for further questioning,” he said.
He said the department checked on 254 individuals during the two-day operations, comprising 151 locals, 102 Indonesians, five Bangladeshis, a Pakistani, four Filipinos and a Dutch national.
“We will not compromise with anyone, including employers, in our efforts to ensure Sarawak is free from illegal immigrants. We will continue such operations and make sure our personnel remain fit and committed,” he said.
