Vincent Wong, Kenneth Ma both favoured

HONG KONG : Actors Vincent Wong and Kenneth Ma are both favoured to win TVB’s Best Actor award this year.

Rated a possible frontrunner for the title is Bosco Wong.

Kenneth Ma is highly rated for his scintillating performance in The Exorcist’s Meter.

Not to be discounted is Michael Miu, who was named Best Actor at the TVB Star Awards Malaysia.

Also in the running for the Best Actor award is Benjamin Yuen (Line Walker: The Prelude). However, although he has been nominated, a modest Benjamin has already conceded defeat, saying that he shall work harder next year to make an even bigger impact.

This year’s awards shall be handed out only in January, giving all the nominees a longer window period to lobby for votes.

The longer window period also favours late-in-the-calendar-year dramas like My Ages Apart and Heart and Greed.

My Ages Apart, which stars Bobby Au-yeung and Moses Chan, shall be airing its final episode only on Jan 12. Heart and Greed, on the other hand, airs its finale on Jan 19.

For this reason, both Bobby Au-yeung and Moses Chan could be surprise outsiders in the battle for the Best Actor award.

Last October, Ali Lee won the Best Actress for her role in Legal Mavericks at the Starhub TVB Star Awards in Singapore. Despite this victory, she may not end up among the top five contenders for Best Actress.

This is because her nomination for the TVB award is based on her performance in My Ages Apart, and not Legal Mavericks. My Ages Apart has yet to gain traction as an award-worthy series.

Another name being bandied about is Jessica Hsuan, who had won the Best Actress title at the TVB Stars Awards in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the nominees for the Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards are in for a tight race.

Among the frontrunners are Owen Cheung and Joel Chan. Thanks to his tear-jerking performance in The Exorcist’s Meter, Anthony Ho is also a favourite.

Surprisingly, Moon Lau has been snubbed despite her creditable performance in The Exorcist’s Meter.

To triumph, all the nominees will have to win the votes of judges, artistes, and members of the public.

According to TVB executive Felix To, some additional changes to the awards format shall be announced later.
