Najib the PM meets Najib the schoolboy

-

PEKAN: A Year Two pupil of Sekolah Rendah Paloh Hinai became the centre of public attention when he was called on stage at a convention hall here yesterday, to receive school aid from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

That boy was Mohd Najib Razak Jefree, eight, and his name, needless to say, left the prime minister in stitches.

Najib, who is Pekan Member of Parliament, spent some time chatting with the boy who was with his mother, Siti Norfaizah Sh Harun, 40, at an aid-presentation event held at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Convention Hall.

The boy, from Taman Selasih, Paloh Hinai was clearly elated when asked how he felt about receiving the uniform, schoolbag and shoes from his namesake, the prime minister himself.

“I am thrilled at having met him... the prime minister is nice,” he told reporters here yesterday.

According to Siti Norfaizah, her son was given that name because her husband, Jefree Wahab, 49, was proud of Najib’s leadership as prime minister.

“My husband said naming our son, Najib, was to honour the prime minister. I did not even know he had named our son, Mohd Najib Razak until about three weeks after I had delivered him.

“I was surprised but happy, and hope that our son will grow up to be useful to the country,” she said.

Siti Norfaizah said the couple’s son, a pupil at Sekolah Kebangsaan Paloh Hinai, told her that his friends often teased him about his name.

“They would sometimes ask him about government issues, and he would come home and ask us what is BR1M and other matters. I would explain it to him, but he really is not bothered (with the teasing).

“The teasing increased when one of his schoolmates was named Rosmah,” she chuckled. - Bernama
