Sabah to send 30 scouts to South Korea jamboree
KOTA KINABALU: The Scouts Association of Malaysia Sabah branch will be sending around 30 participants to the 25th World Scout Jamboree hosted by South Korea in 2023.
Its Deputy Chief Commissioner, Nourman bin Datuk Dr Awang, congratulated the Korea Scouts Association (KSA) on winning the bid to host the World Scout Jamboree.
“We hope to send at least 20 to 30 participants to South Korea for the event,” he said during a visit by KSA leader trainers to the Sabah State Scout Council in conjunction with the third International Scout Exchange Programme at BP House here yesterday.
The event was graced by Deputy National Chief Scout Commissioner cum Sabah State Chief Scout Commissioner, Datuk Dr Awang Zaini bin Haji Suntim.
Nourman said this was the 10th visit from KSA to Sabah since 2006. A total of 19 KSA leader trainers joined the exchange programme to Sabah.
He also thanked KSA for conferring its International Friendship Award to the scout leaders in Sabah as a form of recognition.
Meanwhile, KSA International Commissioner Simon Hang-Bock Rhee said South Korea hosted the World Scout Jamboree in 1991.
In conjunction with the 25th World Scout Jamboree, he said KSA was also organizing a reunion for the participants of the 1991 jamboree two days prior to the actual event.
The event saw the presentation of the Sabah State Chief Scout Medal to Simon, as well as the Sabah State Scout Council President’s Medal to the Assistant National Chief Commissioner Haji Nasaruddin bin Haji Shamsuddin, Chairman of the 19th Leader Trainer’s Alumni of Korea, Chung Sil-Lee, Vice Chairperson of Leader Trainer’s Association of Korea, Jung-Nyeo Han, Chairperson of Incheon Council Leader Trainer’s Committee, Nam-Sook Howang, Vice Chairperson of Jeon-Nam Council, MyungHee Lee, and Vice Chairman of Leader Trainer’s Association of Korea, Byung-No Chang.
KSA presented Awang Zaini with its International Friendship Award (HwaRang Class), while Nourman, Assistant International Commissioner of Scouts Association of Malaysia Sabah branch, Suszma Khairitzsi bin Mamat, Assistant Sabah State Commissioner Program, Raymond George Epun and Assistant National Chief Commissioner of Malaysia, Haji Nasaruddin bin Haji Shamsuddin were awarded the KSA International Friendship Award (GyoRyu Class).
