Warisan will only contest seats it is confident of winning – Shafie

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah will be contesting in areas where it is confident of winning, said its president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

“We have so many options but for the time being Warisan will contest in areas where we can surely win. We are not going to waste time and money; we do not have much money to put a candidate everywhere but we are quite sure that we will win in the areas we contest in,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at his residence yesterday, the Semporna MP also said Parti Warisan Sabah would contest in and win enough seats for it to form the state government.

“Not all 60 or 70 seats but enough so that the party has the majority to form the government,” he said.

To the question whether Warisan would be working with Pakatan Harapan in the 14th general election, Shafie said the party would not be joining any opposition coalition.

“As I have mentioned in my speeches, I would love for them to defeat BN in Peninsular Malaysia but to join a pact, signed agreement to be part and parcel of PH, I am not going to do that. That is clear,” he said.

Shafie also said he had not met with any representatives from national-based opposition parties on the matter of working together in the 14th general election.

“I have not joined Pakatan Harapan. I am only Warisan but I have friends there just like I have friends, in fact relatives who are Umno members, but this does not mean I will not engage with them socially just because I am in Warisan.

“There is no political barrier but when it comes to election, I will put candidates to challenge them. That is politics. There will be no free ‘ride’ for them,” he stressed.

He also said all parties had the right to contest and if they wanted to contest in all the seats, he would not stop them as it was a democratic process.

“The important part is winning the election. It is not about allocation of seats, who to contest, where to contest. Winning the election is the end of the road,” said Shafie.
