Max: PBS capable of winning all seats

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili has expressed confidence that the party can take on the opposition anywhere in Sabah.

“All seats are winnable. We can deliver. We are a multiracial party. You can put us anywhere and we can take on the opposition. There is a lot of hard work and strategy (involved),” he told reporters at the Sabah Electricity Supply Sdn Bhd open day held at the Suria Sabah shopping mall yesterday.

He added that PBS would defend all the 13 state seats that had been allocated to the party in the 13th general election (GE13).

At the same time, he said Parliament had yet to decide on the new additional 13 state seats, adding that they were waiting for the Parliament to endorse it.

It is hoped that the seats distribution would be carried out fairly, he said.

He also said that there were issues concerning the new seats allocation among the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, but believed that the Prime Minister and Chief Minister will ensure equal distribution.

“Hopefully, no one will take all the seats because BN is only strong if all the component parties were united and played their respective roles. All of us in the components can ensure success and work hard for BN,” he said.

He also expressed his aspiration to return to his home town (in Tambunan), but said that it was more important that he ensure that the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat which he won was safe and that the people were served better than what he has done.

As for whether PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan would be contesting in the upcoming election, Maximus said that it was entirely up to the president.
