Christian community celebrates Feast of Santo Nino de Cebu

-

TAWAU: The celebration by each pastoral community at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church has brought unity among the Christian community as shown at the Feast of Santo Nino de Cebu here on Sunday.

Parish priest Rev Monsignor Nicholas Ong said he was happy that so many people, especially the young people, attended the feast.

He said religious community unity among the KadazanDusun, Chinese, Indonesian and Filipino communities was very important in a Christian community.

With love comes service and through service there will be peace in the world, he said.

Meanwhile, Filipino Pastoral Community chairwoman Maria Belen Espladon Nokiah said the annual event was a reminder for all to be re-evangelized and to connect with each other in the church as one big family and to accomplish the vision and mission of the Diocese of Sandakan that was launched in October 2017.

She said the community was also happy to note that young people were slowly taking over the helm of the celebration and someday would become successors so the celebration could continue to uplift their faith.

Belen said youths were now actively participating in the liturgy at Sunday school, in youth and other church activities.

She said despite overwhelming challenges since the last celebration, the Filipino Pastoral Community had overcome them and would focus on the positive issues that would bring the community together.
