Man fined RM10,000 for possessing unregister­ed products

KOTA KINABALU: A man was fined a total of RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here for two counts of possessing unregister­ed products and cosmetics without notificati­on.

Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim imposed the fine on Chien Yien Fui, 27, after he admitted to both the charges yesterday.

On the first charge, the accused was fined RM5,000, in default, 60 days’ jail for having the unregister­ed health products at a shop along Jalan Sulaman, on July 13.

The accused received another similar fine for his second count of having the cosmetic products without notificati­on at the same time and place.

In an unrelated case, a man who was charged with the possessing body parts of Malayan sun bears without a permit will know his fate on January 29.

Sessions Court judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamed set the date to deliver her decision on Tijelo Jacquinn Kuin, 30, who was alleged to have possessed eight paws, eight canine teeth and two gallbladde­rs of the animal at a parking lot in Tanjung Aru near a hotel here at 12.10pm on August 8, 2016.

The animal is an endangered species which is fully protected under the Wildlife Conservati­on Enactment 1997.

The alleged offence was framed under Section 41(1) of the Wildlife Conservati­on Enactment 1997 which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
