Ball at Warisan’s court — Amanah

-

SANDAKAN: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) offer for a political pact with Parti Warisan is purely based on PH’s recognition for Sabahans to witness the realization of opposition parties to form a united front to face the formidable Umno/BN in this coming election, said Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sabah chairman Hamzah Abdullah.

Stating that the ball is now at Warisan’s court, Hamzah said that right from day one of PH leadership meetings held for a number of times, the consensus had been to cooperate with Warisan, a party led by former Umno leader Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal who was seen to command support from Sabahans.

He said the last meeting attended by PH deputy president on January 23, culminated in endorsing PH’s commitment to realise the Sabahan dream, hence giving recognition to Warisan to lead the pact.

“PH believes that the first step that Warisan should take would be to react positively to a letter sent to its president. Let’s first sit down and talk to pave the way to make the impossible possible. Let’s not fall into BN’s trap by making a fuss out of the 60% share of seats allocation when we still had not sat down yet.

“If there’s sincerity on both sides to seriously portray to Sabahans that opposition parties are indeed united to be the best viable alternative government, then there is nothing to stop us from engaging with one another,” he said.

On Wednesday, Parti Harapan Sabah deputy chairman Stephen Wong said Warisan had been offered 60 percent of the state seats to be contested in the 14th General Election. At the same time, Warisan must allow Pakatan to contest 60 percent of the parliamentary seats.
