Schoolgirl killed, six friends injured in three-car collision

KOTA KINABALU: A secondary school student was killed while six of her friends suffered minor injuries when the Perodua Bezza car they were travelling in collided with two other vehicles at Tuaran bypass, near Kampung Kalansanan, on Thursday.

The 16-year-old, Nabila Jimos, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene in the 4.75pm incident.

It is learned that the victim was travelling in the car with six of her female friends, all aged 16, when the car collided with another Perodua Bezza car and a Honda City car.

The victim was believed to have been thrown out of the car after it hit a road divider and a lamp post.

The car also turned upside down while the other Perodua Bezza car ended up on top of it.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the female driver of the Perodua Bezza car and five of her passengers escaped with minor injuries while the male driver of the other Perodua Bezza, aged 26, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 (QEH II) for treatment.

“He was reported to be in stable condition while the 50-year-old male driver of the Honda City car escaped unhurt,” Chandra said yesterday.

Police are still investigat­ing the cause of the incident and urged eyewitness­es to contact investigat­ing officer, Inspector Chong Chee Wah at 016-303 2030 or the police hotline at 088-221 191.

The case is currently being investigat­ed under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
