Fama to hold monthly My Best Buy program
KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Sabah is endeavouring to organise My Best Buy programme monthly if it continues to receive a positive response.
Director Ribin Wahid said the programme, which is meant to ease financial burden due to the rising cost of living, features selections of local fruit obtained directly from the orchard alongside other items.
“We have durian, rambutan and mangosteen and these are all quality guaranteed. We also have chicken, fish and selected produce at prices of up to 20 per cent less than market price.
“On top of that, we involve local entrepreneurs by offering them a booth to sell their agricultural product and market it to the public,” he said at the FAMA My Best Buy programme at the RTM building, yesterday.
Among products on offer at the fair were rambutan and mangosteen for RM10 and RM20 per basket, respectively, fresh chicken for as low as RM10 and RM30 for all-you-can-eat fruits, including durian, in 45 minutes.
Ribin said the programme targeted higher learning institutions as well as government complexes with an acticipated 1,500 visitors, adding that it generated between RM200,000 and RM300,000, last year.
On agricultural entrepreneurship in Sabah, he said the industry shows promise especially with the involvement of younger entrepreneurs.
“The industry in Sabah is good. We are focusing more on young ‘agropreneurs' to become future industry leaders.
“The agricultural industry is a business. We want to eradicate the perception that it is only for farmers.
“There is a lot of planning and strategising involved, and we want to encourage more youths to get into agriculture as a business,” said Ribin.
