Manipal University — The top private university in India

-

KOTA KINABALU: MelakaManipal Medical College (MMMC) was established in 1997 and last year celebrated its highly successful run within its two decades as the medical school in Malaysia.

It is widely recognised by many as one of the best medical schools in Malaysia and a source of highly proficient medical professionals to the Malaysian health system.

In fact, MMMC's reputation is spread far and wide with many of its alumni practising all across the globe.

MMMC's repute stems from its incessant determination of providing excellent services including incomparable academic delivery. Its showcase of enviable collection of awards and accolades so profoundly reflects its commitment to excellence to medical education beyond compare.

MMMC's degrees in medicine and dental surgery are twincampus programs whereby students complete 24 to 36 months of the basic sciences (preclinicals) at the MMMC Campus in Manipal, India and then return to Malaysia for the clinical training in Malaysian general hospitals.

Manipal, a deemed-to-beUniversity in India and considered by many among the top five there, has one of the largest Anatomy and Pathology museums in Asia with over 1,000 dissected specimens on display.

MMMC students count themselves among the lucky ones, having access to this and many excellent resources in a university environment; these resources are not limited to academia only, and students have a wonderful experience in a vibrant setting that often have them musing nostalgically when they return to Malaysia.

To complement the success of the medical program, the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) was introduced in 2009 and if the numbers clamouring for this program is any indication, it seems that the BDS is another outright winner.

Leveraging on the Manipal's reputation in India as the top dental school, MMMC has certainly modelled a winner.

Currently, wanna-be dental surgeons are very strongly urged to sign up for MMMC's Foundation in Science (FIS) program to stand any chance to gain entry into this exceedingly popular BDS.

MMMC's FIS is a one year preuniversity course completed solely in the Melaka campus. A unique program, the FIS is purpose-built to prepare students for the MBBS and BDS undergraduate degrees, with the inclusion of subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, and Oral Biology.

This provides a better insight into these subjects and prepares students for the undergraduate studies.

Despite the rigours and intensity of the course, it is promising to note that the FIS has a remarkable success rate of 95% and above.

Students in MBBS and BDS who have been through the FIS have given positive feedback about the solid groundwork thus obtained.

An added incentive for parents who would like their children to obtain a much coveted ‘Manipal' degree is that the FIS student is given top priority into MMMC's MBBS and BDS programs.

If students and parents hesitate to enrol their children at MMMC due to financial constraints, they can have more than a glimmer of hope whereby MMMC offers up to 100% scholarships to students for its FIS, and PTPTN now offers its full complement of the RM150,000 disbursement for MBBS.

With a hallmark of academic excellence and an enviable record of accomplishment in providing quality medical and dental education, MMMC is committed to providing a curriculum that offers diverse learning opportunities. The commitment to excellence is one that is ‘Inspired by Life' and tempered by ethical service to the nation and humanity.
