Fama Sabah targets RM300 mln earnings from programmes

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) in Sabah targets the earnings of the agricultural entrepreneurs under its various programmes to touch RM300 million this year.

Its Director, Ribin Wahid, said Fama Sabah was confident of the target based on the encouraging returns raked in by the entrepreneurs under its programmes from year to year.

“Last year, the income earned by agricultural entrepreneurs through the programmes reached RM127 million, which we consider to be good compared to the past years,” he told the media at the ‘My Best Buy’ programme, which is jointly organised by Fama and RTM Sabah here yesterday.

He said the programme, started in 2015 in Sabah, generated sales of about RM200,000 last year.

“The programme, an initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, is to help people in urban areas, address the impact of rising costs of living while consumers can get the goods at affordable prices,” he said.

Ribin said the programme would be launched throughout Sabah to give the people the opportunity to buy agricultural products at lower than the market prices.

“Farm products sold through the Fama programme are cheaper, with discounts of up to 20 per cent of the market price and there are also more attractive price offers.

“The programme is held around Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan at this time,” he said.

He said the farming industry was getting more attention from the youths and Fama Sabah hoped more young entrepreneurs could be produced in future. —
