The Kota Kinabalu City Hall has extended the amnesty period for coupon and parking offenders to se le their outstanding compounds by one day.

KOTA KINABALU: City Hall Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai has extended the amnesty period for coupon and parking offenders here by one more day.

He made the announcement after seeing the huge crowd who flocked to City Hall compound as early as 6am yesterday to settle their coupon and parking compounds.

Yeo said the extension was to allow members of the public who could not resolve the compounds yesterday to be able to do so today.

“I see the people continuing to flood the City Hall building from morning to evening,” he said.

He added that Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah and City Hall Advisory Board had agreed with the extension, which would start from 8am to 5pm. Speaking to reporters at Kota Kinabalu City Hall’s 18th Anniversary as well as the launch of the Chinese New Year celebration yesterday, Yeo urged the public to abstain from delaying their compound settlement.

He reminded that City Hall seldom carried out such amnesty programmes, stating also that it was for a special reason that it was being held.

He warned that any offence involving compounds will result in court action.

Meanwhile, City Hall director general Datuk Joannes Solidau said based on their records, the amount of compounds yet to be collected by City Hall amounted to RM320,000.

He said only about half was resolved yesterday.

Some of the compounds were issued prior to 2008, he said.

Joannes also said those compounded needed only to write their car number on a piece of paper that had been stamped and signed by City Hall officers. Afterwards, they have a week (next Friday) to settle their compounds, he said.
