LAHAD DATU: Silam MIC expressed confidence that Indian voters in this area will give strong support to Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming election.

Its chief, Datuk A Nagaraju Applasamy, said the Indian community was not big here but they wanted a party who listened to their voices and paid attention to their needs.

To this end, Nagaraju said the Indian community here could see that BN was the only party that could help them.

“The Indian community here will not be influenced by the propaganda brought by the opposition.

“We have confidence that the Indian community in Sabah, including in Silam, will contribute to BN’s victory in the upcoming election,” he said when met during a press conference held in conjunction with the 1Malaysia Pongal Festival yesterday.

According to Nagaraju, the Pongal Festival to be held on February 11 at the Lahad Datu District Council will the first of its kind in Sabah.

The celebration, he said, was aimed at sharing the culture of the Indian community as well as strengthen unity among the multi-racial and multi-religious community here.

This festival is expected to be officiated by Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal, who is also Silam Umno division head, Nagaraju disclosed.

“During this festival, the community can recognise the culture of the Indian community.

“Various activities will be held during this festival including cultural performance, blood donation campaign, exhibitions and many more,” he said.

All communities in Lahad Datu and nearby are invited to celebrate the festival together, Nagaraju urged.
