Selangor grab back top league position

Kuala Lumpur: Selangor wrested the top position of the Super League with a 4-1 win over Melaka at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras Wednesday night.

Selangor collected the maximum six points from two matches but the superior goal difference pushed them to the top position of the league table leaving Johor Darul Ta’azim in second spot.

In the match, the striker from Spain Rufino Segovia scored two goals in the eighth and 57th minutes while Muhammad Syahmi Safari also scored two goals in the 54th and 90th to enable the Red Giants to maintain their undefeated record.

Melaka’s solitary goal came from Portugal import, Tiago Gomes who scored in the 30th minute.

At the Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi, home side Negeri Sembilan earned their first victory after easily defeating Kuala Lumpur 2-0 to collect three crucial points.

The goal for the ‘Hobin Jang Hobin’ squad was provided by Argentinia­n import, Nicolas Leandro Velez who found the opponent’s net in the 11th and 31st minutes.

Meanwhile, the fate of FA Cup 2017 champions, Kedah continued to slide downhill as they were beaten by Perak 1-3 at the Stadium Darul Aman.

Perak striker, Gilmar Jose Da Silva Filho cheered the Bos Gaurus camp when they opened accounts in the 21st minute before Mohd Nazrin Nawi scored in the 86th minute.

Kedah narrowed the gap through Sandro Da Silva who calmly converted the penalty in the 78th minute after Muhammad Akhyar Rashid was brought down in the penalty box.

The hope of the Red Eagle’s squad to find the equaliser was dashed by Perak’s defender Nazirul Naim Che Hashim when he succeeded to find the net for Perak during injury time to collect the valuable three points.

In another match at the Shah Alam Stadium, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) sprang a surprise by defeating Pahang 1-0 thanks to a late goal by national striker, Mohd Safee Mohd Sali in the 90th minute. - Bernama
