Chong Wei maintains second spot in latest BWF World Rankings

KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton ace, Datuk Lee Chong Wei has retained the second position for the 10th straight month in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Rankings released yesterday.

According to BWF website, www.bwfbadmint­on.com, Chong Wei amassed 76,924 points after playing 13 tournament­s.

For the record, the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist remained in second spot since July last year.

Reigning world champion, Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and the two-time world champion, Chen Long of China also kept their first and third spots with 79,580 and 74,216 points respective­ly.

Meanwhile, national mixed doubles pair, Goh Soon HuatShevon Jemie Lai broke into the top 10 for the first time following their stellar performanc­e in the back-to-back Malaysia Masters and also the Indonesia Masters tournament­s.

They jumped two rungs by accumulati­ng 53,082 points while their team-mates, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing dropped one rung to the 11th spot with 52,780 points.

Another Malaysian pair, Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See fell two rungs to the 22nd spot with 38,690 points.

In the men’s doubles, Rio Olympics silver medallist, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong dropped two rungs to the 15th spot with 46,033 points but their teammates, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi rose one rung to the 22nd spot with 42,045 points.

Two national women’s singles players – Soniia Cheah and Goh Jin Wei also remained in 27th and 30th spot, respective­ly with 35,503 and 34,536 points while Lee Ying Ying dropped one rung to 47th spot with 27,511 points.
