75 confirmed for SGCC Junior Golf Tournament

KOTA KINABALU: Seventyfiv­e players have confirmed their entries in the SGCC Junior Golf Tournament.

The 16th edition of the tournament will take place at the Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) here from February 1011.

Deputy president of SGCC, Danny Lim, said the participan­ts include the boys ‘ defending champion Maxwin Chiew.

Chiew however is expected to face a tough title defence where the likes of Christophe­r James, Neil Bainon and Hissard Tambakan are also in the fray.

“Although the tournament falls on non-school holidays week, it has received overwhelmi­ng response and nearing the target of 80 golfers.

“I want to thank the parents for their support by allowing their children to take part in the tournament,” Lim said when leading a delegation on a courtesy call tothe Youth and Sports Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Awang Damit Awang Anak here yesterday.

The purpose of the meeting was to invite Awang Damit as the guestof-honor at the prize presentati­oncum-closing ceremony on Sunday (February 11).

Meanwhile, the tournament will feature four categories namely Group A for golfers aged between 16-18, Group B (13-15 years old), Group C (10-12 years old) and the new addition Group D for those under nine years old.

“Group D is only open to junior golfers under SGCC and will see them compete in the short game challenge.

“Group A and Group B will be played over 18 holes whole Group C is based on nine holes in the two-daycompeti­tion,” said SGCC captain Ng Loong Fah.

Ng went on to say that preparatio­ns for the tournament had been smooth and they are ready to host the competitio­n.
