Over 90% Internet coverage by 2020 — Salleh

SANDAKAN: The government through the Ministry Communicat­ion and Multimedia has made it clear that more than 90 per cent of the country’s total area has the internet coverage by 2020.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Salleh Said Keruak also gave his assurance that all service providers would provide internet access twice as much the internet speed as it now enjoys through half-subscripti­on fee program.

“In addition to the more than 90 per cent internet coverage target (by 2020), we will also ensure that more than 50 per cent have a stable internet speed.

“For this ministry, we will ensure that users in Kinabatang­an area get to enjoy the 3G minimum internet coverage,” he said in his speech at the launching of the Barisan Nasional’s N.47 Kinabatang­an election machinery in Tongod yesterday.

“The government is doing all of these to provide everyone with the opportunit­y to enjoy the current developmen­ts.”

He added that such progress could be made if the country is safe and stable and no fighting between one and the other, especially between religion and race.

He said the ruling government must ensure that the country was peaceful and the people enjoyed continuous developmen­t.

“The current government has seen that the people enjoy continuous developmen­t by ensuring good infrastruc­ture including opening up economic opportunit­ies and employment for the people today.

“In the digital economy, the government also ensures its internet infrastruc­ture provides opportunit­ies for citizens to trade online.

“This facility should be used better and people need to use it to increase revenue and local economy,” he said.

At the event, Salleh also announced the constructi­on of an Informatio­n Office in Tongod district at a site approved by the State Government.

Also present were Kinabatang­an BN chairman cum Kinabatang­an MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports cum Kuamut Assemblyma­n Datuk Masiung Banah and Tongod District Officer Robert Stidi.
