Motivational boost for Keningau school from Class of ‘72

-

KENINGAU: It was down memory lane for Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili and his former schoolmates when they shared success tips with their juniors at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gunsanad here on Friday.

The Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister reunited with his schoolmates, comprising successful entrepreneurs, senior government officers, and professionals, namely nurse, teacher and lawyer, to give motivational boost for Form Five and Six students at the school.

At the event, organised as part of the Class of ‘72 Alumni’s annual reunion event, Ongkili and others including Datuk Richard Bainon, Dr Aini Arif and Pauline Toyong, to mention some, reminded their juniors to study hard and smart.

“Success does not come easy. It requires a lot of commitments. We are just some of the examples that hard work pays.

“Set your goals, discipline yourself, work hard and smart, do not be scared of failures and believe in yourself.

“Most importantly, always seek guidance from God Almighty,” said Ongkili, who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah acting president and Kota Marudu Member of Parliament at the school’s Cetusan Inspirasi SPM 2018 programme.

Coming from a humble background himself, Ongkili reminded students to never give up easily.

“If you have to read (the book) five times to understand a subject, while others only read once or twice - so what! Have that fighting spirit because only that will secure you success,” he said.

At the event, Ongkili announced an allocation of RM50,000 for the school’s Parents Teachers Association to repair SMK Gunsanad’s hostel and RM10,000 to run motivation programmes for students and parents.
