PUTATAN: The Barisan Nasional (BN) here is confident of the Chinese community’s support in the upcoming 14th general election.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin said the positive response from the local community could be seen during ceremonies and events.

“The turnouts have been supportive,” he said.

Yahya added that the positive rapport from the community stemmed from the government’s effort to respond to their needs by addressing issues such as drainage, floods as well as setting up a conducive environment for them to conduct their business.

“Hence, they know that the BN government sees what they need and answers accordingly,” he said. Speaking at the Chinese New Year celebration held at One Place Mall near here yesterday, Yahya also commented on Pakatan Harapan’s proposal to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to review the rights of Sabah and Sarawak if it gets a mandate to form the federal government.

“That is a stale promise since the Barisan Nasional government has already prepared all these things for the people,” he said.

“We have done many things and even more, and what is lacking, we will address,” he said.

Also present at the event were the Special Tasks Ministry’s political secretary, Chong Su Leong, Chinese Kapitan Ng Cheng Thing and Senior Citizens Activities Centre (PAWE) chairman Poh Wing Hiung.
