Another RM2 mln for Police Heritage Trust Fund
BAGAN DATUK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday announced another RM2 million allocation to the Police Heritage Trust Fund (TAWP).
Ahmad Zahid said with the allocation, the accumulated fund now stood at RM5 million.
“Now, I leave the responsibility to Datuk Seri Zulkifli (Abdullah), via this Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) high-powered motorcycle convoy, to raise another RM5 million for the TAWP, so that it will have RM10 million to carry out police programmes nationwide.”
Ahmad Zahid said this during lunch with the convoy participants and Home Ministry personnel at the Hutan Melintang Police Station here yesterday.
Apart from Zulkifli who is Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director, the event was also attended by Perak Police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan.
On January 15, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that the government would allocate RM3 million annually towards the TAWP for three years for the welfare of the police pensioners and their families.
In his speech, Ahmad Zahid also called on all parties to contribute to TAWP in appreciation of retired policemen for their deeds and contributions.
“Peace is not something that falls from the sky, it is a result of police efficiency while carrying out their duties, and it requires cooperation from the public,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, said as a new district, a new district police headquarters would be built in Bagan Datuk and that 280 new posts would be created for the police officers and personnel stationed at the headquarters.
He said a total of RM138 million had been allocated to build the new district police headquarters and it was expected to be completed by 2020.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid led the PDRM high-powered motorcycle convoy from Tanjung Karang to Hutan Melintang to raise funds for TAWP in conjunction with the 211th Police Day this year.
