KOTA MARUDU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to pour development allocation into Sabah, especially for rural infrastructure in the state.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said better infrastructure like roads and education facilities would reduce development gap drastically between Sabah and Peninsula.

“Only a strong BN government can do this,” Maximus, who is also the Kota Marudu member of parliament, told reporters after the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Chinese New Year walkabout in Sikuati town, near here yesterday.

He added that the opposition had no development agenda for Sabah, and worst, they were disunited and only good in criticising the government.

“They (opposition) offer no solution that could benefit the people. Their main mission is to talk bad about the government, belittling our hard work and question our efforts.

“The opposition are bankrupt of quality leaders to develop and position Malaysia in world economic and political arena. They even have to drag in the aged former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to lead them,” he stressed.

Maximus noted that during his tenure for 22 years, Mahathir ruled like he was prime minister for Malaya only.

“He did little for Sabah and Sarawak, nothing for the state rights and even eroded the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“His laxed foreign workers policy opened the floodgates of illegal immigrants into Sabah and created the economic and security havoc now faced by Sabahans,” said the acting Parti Bersatu Sabah president.

Therefore, he reminded the rakyat to not be hoodwinked by the irresponsible opposition.

After greeting communities at the tamu ground and shoplots, Maximus attended the Au Ah Yun @ Baruang Asiew’s CNY family event at Kampung Tawakul, Matunggong.

During the event, he presented mandarin oranges to sino-Rungus community at the village.
