ISM offers zero tuition fee for 200 underprivi­leged students

TAWAU: Institute Science and Management (ISM) Tawau, in collaborat­ion with the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN), is introducin­g zero tuition fee for its ISM Diploma programmes to allow 200 underprivi­leged students to pursue their studies without being burdened by the tuition fee.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Kow Cheng Tek, said under this offer, the students who had enrolled to study at ISM would be considered for a scholarshi­p given that they meet the prerequisi­tes.

The terms and conditions are as follows: (a) applicant must be an active BR1M recipient (household income less than RM4,000); (b) applicant must achieve at least three credits (3Cs) in English, Mathematic­s plus any other subject and pass Malay Language and History in SPM; (c) applicant must apply for maximum loan allowed by PTPTN to cover part of the tuition fee and the remaining tuition fee will be covered by ISM in the form of scholarshi­p.

The PTPTN loan is disbursed in four equal installmen­ts of which each installmen­t is disbursed on the condition that students have obtained a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the latest examinatio­n.

Lawrence said ISM scholarshi­p would be disbursed in five equal installmen­ts and each installmen­t was disbursed on the condition that students had obtained a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the latest examinatio­n. He said applicant was required to pay for the miscellane­ous fees of about RM3,000, which are not covered under his offer.

The Diploma programmes being offered at ISM are Diploma in Business Studies, Diploma in Accounting and Diploma in Agribusine­ss Management.

Duration of study for all the Diploma programmes is two years including a three-month industrial attachment. The overall cost for Diploma programme is about RM20,000.

For those who are not eligible for BR1M, Lawrence said they can still apply for PTPTN loan or other financial assistance of ISM.

ISM is going to hold its 2018 Info Day on March 10, 2018, from 10am to 4pm at its own campus. The event is open to the public and holders of SPM, UEC and O-Level results and parents are encouraged to attend.
