GOF seizes RM1.4 million in drugs in border bust

-

SEMATAN: The state General Operations Force (GOF) busted a drug syndicate last Thursday following the seizure of RM1.4 million worth of drugs and arrest of five foreigners at Kampung Telok Melano.

GOF Battalion 11 commanding officer Supt Sar'ie Fauzi said all five suspects – foreign nationals aged between 28 and 56 – were detained during a search carried out on the suspects about 4.30pm.

He said the suspects were spotted acting suspiciously while making their way to the Malaysia-Indonesia border on three motorcycles.

“An inspection on the suspects' sling bags uncovered packages wrapped in aluminum foil containing crystals substance believed to be Syabu, weighing about 5.1 kilogrammes with an estimated street value worth RM1.4 million,” said Sar'ie when contacted on Saturday.

He said the seizure was the biggest for Battalion 11 so far this year.

All suspects were handed over to the Bau District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Division for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.

Separately, Sar'ie said Battalion 11 foiled an attempt to smuggle a stolen four-wheel drive vehicle through an illegal route along the Malaysia-Indonesia on Friday.

He revealed that his personnel were conducting a patrol in the area when they spotted the vehicle, whose driver then attempted to escape by driving up towards the hill.

The vehicle, however, became stranded in the mud and the driver took off into the jungle to avoid arrest.
