KK Jazz Festival returns for 12th edition at Sutera Harbour Resort

KOTA KINABALU: The 12th KK Jazz Festival will be held on March 9 and 10 at the covered tennis courts of the Sutera Harbour Resort.

Organising chairman Rotarian Jack Ong said this year’s festival promises to showcase an exciting array of renowned and up-coming local and internatio­nal talents throughout its two-night night show.

Malaysian celebrity, social media personalit­y and Sabahan beauty Daphne Iking is back as the emcee.

Jack disclosed this during a courtesy call on Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t at his office recently.

During the courtesy call, Masidi applauded the effort of KK Jazz Festival for highlighti­ng local talents

and called on the public to purchase tickets for the show as he fully supports the event which will feature local artistes.

Co-organising chairman Roger Wang stated that the festival has become a significan­t platform for a number of Sabahan artistes to launch their career.

Jack also said that the committee is forever grateful to the main sponsor, Yayasan Sime Darby and other supporters and partners.

Performers lined up for KKFJ2018 include:

Sybil Thomas (HK/USA) – Born to a line of music royalty that is unmatched, having collaborat­ed with internatio­nal legends and toured internatio­nally with Grammy award winning artists, she has nearly 40 years experience in the music industry. Her first big break came in the early 1970’s when she toured with the distinguis­hed group, The Platters, as the only female singer.

Mezzotono (Italy) – True ambassador­s of Italian music, these five singers use their voices to produce the sounds of different instrument­s to perform a repertoire of music sung in many styles. Be it pop or jazz and bossa nova, mambo or tango, big band or classical, all songs are given a fresh new twist by their unique arrangemen­ts and the inventive contributi­on of their rhythmicvo­cals.

Rozella (Malaysia) – Regularly performing and creating music, this talented Sabahan singersong­writer was a VIMA Music Awards 2016 nominee and the winner of Tiger Jams 2016. Her musical talents were recognised when she was handpicked to do an exclusive remix by an internatio­nal synth pop band.

Esther Applunius (Malaysia) Led by Powerhouse vocalist, Esther Applunius, The Esthers were the Champions of Borneo at Hard Rock’s inaugural internatio­nal band competitio­n in June of 2016.

Jumero (Malaysia) – Winner of multiple awards and having performed locally and internatio­nally at numerous festivals, events and venues, these trio harmonize their way through their original songs and arrangemen­t of covers. They have come a long way since their debut in 2012 after winning the Star R.age competitio­n.

The Shangri-La (Malaysia) - This song-and-dance musical duo is a concoction of East meets West, bringing you all the glitz and glamour of Shanghai jazz, English classics and boogie woogie, that captures the golden and opulent era of Shanghai in the 1940s-60s.

Albino Deer (Malaysia) – Sharing an offering of music that is much an impromptu and spontaneou­s presentati­on to the eyes and ears, this ensemble of passionate musicians draws from a long musical history, confidence and friendship.

Power Line (Malaysia) – With their blend of jazz, rock and fusion style, they took their musical power up the line and establishe­d themselves as the top Labuan band. Comprising of a seasoned entertaine­r, experience­d sessionist­s and passionate musicians, they perform magically.

Winners from the recent talent search will also have the golden opportunit­y to showcase their talent on stage on the opening night.

The festival is from 7pm-11pm and doors open at 6pm. There are tables and chairs provided at the venue but availabili­ty is on a firstcome, first-serve basis.

KKJF2018 will have some of the best restaurant­s in Kota Kinabalu serving up their best food and beverages such as The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Outlet, Party Play Lifestyle Cafe, Carlsberg, and many more. F&B coupons of RM20 and RM50 per book are sold during the festival.

Prices for the tickets are RM100 for a one-day pass (per person per night) and RM150 for a two-day pass (per person for two nights). Both tickets are for regular seating on a first-come, first-served basis. The price for one Premier table is RM1,000 each per night (maximum of six people) or RM200 per pax per night (maximum of four people) for a premier seating on sharing basis where table and seats are specially reserved. F&B is not included but waiters are on standby to assist on getting your food and beverages.

KKJF is jointly organised by RCKK and the SPArKS, and the festival is an annual fund-raising festival, where money raised from ticket sales is used to fund deserving community projects of RCKK.
