KOTA KINABALU: Twentyfive participants graduated in Executive Certificate in Front Office Operations programme at Ascot Academy boutique hospitality skills institute yesterday.

Best Student Marcelina Ivy Marius, while eager to start her career in hospitality, acknowledged the personal development she experienced in her time at Ascot.

“When I first came in, I wasn’t very confident with myself but since I’ve undergone training and have some practical experience, my self-confidence and public relations skills have improved. I am now able to handle cases and complaints well,” she said.

The 23-year-old from Tenom told the press after the ceremony that she decided to venture into hospitality as it is a fastgrowing industry. She said she chose front desk operations as a start to her career before expanding it.

Marcelina also hoped to help put her siblings through school once she starts earning, while her personal goals include collecting assets. She is to report to The Boulevard Hotel Kuala Lumpur on March 5.

Earlier, hospitality teaching staff Christie Jessy in her speech said the 25 Ascot students all received job offers before graduating, from The Garden Mid Valley, Marriot Hotel Putrajaya, Armada Hotel Petaling Jaya, Tune Hotel and Ibis Hotel to name a few.

Yesterday’s graduating group also achieved 100 per cent employment rate, like previous groups in various fields of hospitality.

Christie reminded the graduates that success in the industry depends on discipline, enthusiasm and effort, adding that they should remember to help their families once they succeed.

The six-month programme comprises theory learning as well as practical industry training in hotels around Kota Kinabalu, namely Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, Shangri-la Hotel, Promenade Hotel and Ming Garden Hotel & Residences.

Present at the ceremony were UMS Investment Holding Sdn Bhd Group chief executive officer Ramlan Awang Ali and Ascot chief executive officer Abdul Razak Egoh.
